Thank you for taking some time to be interviewed for the Super Happy Death Cult webzine. Can you please introduce yourself to our readers and tell us a little bit about what you do.
My name is Mikey Robles, I’m a rapper from Wenatchee Washington and I go by Mikey$ix.
When did you get started? And how did the name come together?
I’ve been rapping/making music since i was in 8th grade but started releasing my rap music around December 2016 when i did a feature with another rap group named “Gloom Cult”. I chose the name “Mikey$ix” because of my personal experiences with depression and anxiety. i had a lot of really messed up things happen to me in the past dealing with my issues, i struggled every day trying to find happiness and trying to learn how to manage my anxiety. for me i can remember it taking up to 6 years to really get in control of a lot of my mental issues but i want those 6 years to represent what it created in me.
Did you mess with any other genres or forms of music before getting into hip-hop and rap?
Before rap I was listening to heavy metal bands like Whitechapel, Thy Art Is Murder, The Faceless and many more. i was in a post-hardcore band back in highschool where i played guitar.
Who gets bragging rights for helping you get to where you are now?
Well, to start off I’m going to say my homies who rap in my town that have a group called Low Class Collective. i saw how they were doing their thing, recording their music and making the beats, it inspired me to actually put my music out there. also my homies in Gloom Cult “Lil Witch King and Slim Pariah” lil witch showed me the music he was making and also helping me with getting better with my production. they inspired me to work on my flow and work hard on with my music.
If you could go on tour with anybody, who would the roster consist of? What would be your dream tour?
Probably XXXTentacion, Bones, Pouya and Night Lovell. haha i’d have to really think about it because i have a lot of artists id like to tour with including metal bands just to switch it up a bit.
Where there any significant obstacles or hard times that you had to overcome to get here today? What was the darkest moment in your personal come up?
Pretty much just dealing with my depression and anxiety mostly. probably the hardest thing was having to deal with the separation of my parents. i’ve been doing a lot to help my mom because my dad fucked us over completely. he cheated, lied and it came very close to violence if i didnt step in. so taking care of my mom, dealing with all the hate i have towards my dad. i found that through music i can really separate myself from everything and get lost. it felt so good writing raps and being able to express myself this way, i wanna keep on doing it because it makes me truly happy and i want my music to really reach out to people and let them know that they really arent alone dealing with these issues whatever it may be.
Are there any important video or music releases you have coming out soon that we should know about?
I have a track coming out soon that I will be shooting a video for and I just signed up with Wavy666 so I will be releasing music with them as well
Any upcoming shows you want to plug?
I got a show this Friday the 28th in Wenatchee Washington at the community center with a few local rappers https://www.facebook.com/events/1784830548500412/
